Minna Prison incident, not jail break, says NPS

Francis Enobore, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Prisons Service, says the unfortunate incident at Minna Medium Security Prison is an attack, not jail break.

Enobore who disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja the incident led to the death of a prison officer and a motorcyclist, who conveyed a prison officer on night duty.

The attack took place at Minna Medium Security Prison at Tunga area of Minna metropolis On June 3 at about 8:00 p.m.

The spokesman said that the Nigerian Prisons Service had experienced a relatively calm and peaceful atmosphere the whole of 2015.

He also said that it was when the new administration came on board that there were disturbances from hoodlums and strategies had been put in place to ensure that those ugly incidents were reduced to the barest minimum.

Enobore identified overcrowding, old and weak infrastructure as the major causes of those ugly incidents in the past.
