Plateau United football club of Jos failed to make it into the group stages of the CAF Champions League after defeating Tunisian club Etoile Sportif du Sahel by 1-0 at the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano.

After losing by 4-2 during the first leg in Sousse few days back, United needed two unreplied goals to assure themselves a spot in the group stages of the competition.

With the duo of Raphael Ayagwa and Okiemute Odah out of the game due to injury, Ibeh Johnson and Dele Ajiboye replaced them in the line-up as the team started on the front foot, pegging the Tunisians during the first 20 minutes of the game.

After so mush pressure on the defence line of Etoile, the team finally budged as Tosin Omoyele flicked in a lose ball in the 18 yard box of the opposition after Salomon Junior initial header to put Plateau United ahead.

That defensive lap mitigated the Etoile du Sahel to bring in tall and lanky Mohamed Konate to replace Remi Bedoui in defence.

The change worked to perfection as the Malian Out-muscled the due of Tosin Omoyele and Joshua Obaje up front, limiting United to shot from outside the penalty area.

With the game still at 1-0 heading into the 2nd half, Plateau United’s coach, brought in Abdulwaheed Afolabi in place of Obaje with Sunday Ingbede also replacing Peter Eneji.

Both players struggled to make any meaningful contributions in the game as they were also reduce to half-chances as the closest Plateau United came to doubling their lead was a shot from King Osanga in the 74th minute in which the Krir- the goal keeper of Etoile handled comfortably.

The match ended by the odd goal as the former CAF Champions League winners Etiole progressed into the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
