Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, on Tuesday, said the Federal Government had earmarked N25.1 billion for the promotion of its activities and N5.30 billion to acquire grazing land for herdsmen.

The minister stated this while presenting the 2018 budget to the public in Abuja.

Herdsmen have been having a running battle with farmers across the country, and this has led to hundreds of deaths.

There have been calls for the herdsmen to be declared terrorists as the international community has done.

However, the government considers acquiring grazing land where boreholes could be sunk as the way out of the crisis.

Giving a breakdown along sectoral and sub-sectoral allocations, the minister pointed out that the capital component of the budget would be wholly funded from borrowing which would take the country’s debt beyond $20 billion.

But he said N4 billion had been budgeted for Agribusiness and market development.

Similarly, allocations for water provisions drew the ire of the public as many questioned why N3.5 billion would be allocated to Zone Water Supply project, and one billion naira to provision of portable water for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the North East.
